Gunmen attacked and shot dead two members of the government-owned Ebubeagu Security Outfit in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
The incident took place at the popular Ebebe Junction, on Friday night.
The incident, which also led to many residents of the area sustaining varying degrees of injuries, has caused palpable fears among the citizenry, as some were seen scampering for safety.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chris Anyanwu, also confirmed the development.
SaharaReporters in September had reported that in Mkpuma Ekwa-Oku Community in the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, suspected gunmen also killed a security operative of Ebubeagu.

They had shot dead the official, Sunday Izhikpa, at his duty post in the community.
Victor Ogbaga, a resident in Abakaliki, the state capital said the deceased was a native of Nduakparata Igbeagu in the same local government area.
Ogbaga was quoted as saying that “He was killed by the gunmen at his duty post, Mkpuma Ekwa-oku in Izzi, adding that the corpse of the victim has been evacuated from the scene, where he was murdered this morning.”
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Anyanwu, had also confirmed the killing.
