A group of land owners in Abuja have called on the Inspector General of Police, Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices, and other related offences Commission with other law enforcement agencies to save them from incessant attacks from a vicious gang of land grabbers in Lugbe area of Abuja.

The aggrieved land owners in a statement signed by Felix Chukwunanso and Olamide Popoola, tagged ‘Open Letter to I.G.P Alkali Baba’ said the step became necessary as “several petitions and complaints to the FCT Police Command had been rebuffed by the land grabbers because of their alleged connections with high ranking law enforcement agents at all levels.

“The last time we petitioned FCT Police Command, they said our file had been transferred to the Force Headquarters where the petition was eventually thrown in to the dustbin.”

According to the statement: “The leaders of this land grabbing syndicate are Monday Onimisi and Muhammed-Deen Yusuf, who also operate with two property developers; Mshel Homes Limited and Ifedi Homes Limited as their major financiers who usually develop the grabbed land into beautiful estates and share profits accordingly.”

It further alleged that “the leaders of the land grabbing syndicate and their financiers go about their illicit activities with armed police escort and thugs to intimidate hapless land owners.

“With the collaboration of some law enforcement agents and some public servants, these people go about the federal capital city in a convoy of expensive SUVs with diplomatic number plates and huge number of police escort.

“There are several pending police and court cases which leaders of the syndicate have ignored with ignominy because they have backings of powerful men and they believe they are above the law.

“We therefore appeal to IGP Alkali Baba to call for files of pending cases against the syndicate at the FCT police command, Force CID Area 10, SWAT, ICPC and EFCC and to also find out how and why such huge number of police escorts were assigned to them and to constitute a crack squad of detectives to investigate their activities in the Federal Capital Territory.”
