The organized labour in Abia State has issued an ultimatum to the state authorities, demanding cost of the N30,000 minimal wage and N35,000 palliative award.
The demand was made in a letter dated July 8, 2024, and signed by Okoro Ogbonnaya, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and Enogwe Ihechi, Chairman of the Commerce Union Congress (TUC).
The letter, addressed to Governor Alex Otti by his Chief of Employees, acknowledged that the 14-day ultimatum earlier given to the federal government had expired with none response.
“Organized labour hereby points this last seven (7) days ultimatum with impact from the day of receipt of this letter and states unequivocally, that on the expiration of this ultimatum, on Sunday 00hr, there shall be no additional communication with the federal government.
“Somewhat, the complete workforce of Abia State will proceed on indefinite strike starting from Monday, fifteenth July, 2024,” the letter stated.
