The Minister for States Petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva, has asked the appropriate authority to make sure that the East West road destroyed by the 2022 flood is repaired expeditiously.
Speaking on Thursday along the Okogbe axis of the East West road, Sylva stated that what he saw was beyond what was being talked about and beyond alleviation.
He said although the flood was receding, “the water will come back in a few months’ time,” he said.
“As we stand here, we can see that the water is receding but the water will come back in a few months time next year.
“We must look for a Kind of solution to this problem which has bedevilled us here. It is not a natural disasters but it is something that we experience every year,” he stated
Advising that all hands must be on deck to finding a lasting solution to the destroyed road he continued “We have to come together as a people and leave our political differences aside. We are not here to campaign at all. This is not about any political party. This is about Nigeria.
“The federal executive council has already taken steps to ensure that this problem is resolved and ensure that the devastation that we are seeing is resolved as quickly as possible.
“But going beyond that, we must make sure that we find a lasting solution as quickly as possible and see what we can do not minding our political differences,” he said.
The minister however, visited internally displaced persons at Igbogene and Oxbow camps where he handed over a truckload of food items and other items.
