Earlier experiences revealed that President Tinubu made the announcement throughout a nationwide tackle on March 18, 2025. He cited escalating safety issues, destruction of oil pipelines by militants, and governance points as causes for the drastic resolution.
As a part of the emergency measures, Tinubu suspended all elected members of the Rivers State Home of Meeting and appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) to supervise the state’s administration. He emphasised that the extended political dispute between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the state legislature had weakened governance, depriving residents of democratic advantages.
