A northern advocacy group, the Northern Socio-Political Rights Community (NSPRN), claims it turned down a N200 million bribe allegedly provided by political proxies to orchestrate a protest in opposition to President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.
In an announcement launched on Saturday in Kaduna, the group alleged that the bribe was provided earlier within the week, with particular directions to publicly accuse President Tinubu of protecting Matawalle from corruption investigations.
NSPRN President, Mohammed Farouk Lawal, described the provide as a part of a broader scheme aimed toward undermining the Federal Authorities’s affect within the North-West by discrediting key officers loyal to the President.
“We had been approached by people claiming to symbolize high officers in Zamfara. They provided us N200 million to stage a protest in Abuja in opposition to President Tinubu and Matawalle,” Lawal stated. “The aim was to create the phantasm of mass northern dissatisfaction and outrage over perceived immunity granted to sure ministers.”
Lawal stated the group outrightly rejected the provide, emphasizing their dedication to integrity and grassroots illustration. “They noticed our clear file and powerful northern base as a possible software to legitimize their agenda. However we aren’t on the market,” he added.
He additional revealed that the proposal included studying pre-written statements at press briefings, staging demonstrations on the EFCC headquarters, and producing viral movies demanding Matawalle’s arrest.
The group asserted that this revelation casts doubt on the authenticity of current protests in opposition to the Defence Minister, suggesting they had been sponsored and never reflective of real public sentiment.
“This can be a politically motivated marketing campaign designed to discredit loyal appointees and sow division forward of the 2027 elections. We refuse for use,” Lawal stated.
The NSPRN referred to as on safety companies to analyze the alleged sources of funding for politically pushed protests, warning that unchecked manipulation may threaten nationwide stability.
